How to Truly Love Yourself– You’ve likely heard the phrase ‘Love Yourself’ countless times, and while it sounds straightforward, it’s far from easy. We often find ourselves doubting and critiquing our own abilities, leading to thoughts and decisions that may not be in our best interest.”
Today, I want to share 7 things I do to practice self-love.
1.Knowing that your worth isn’t tied to anything outside yourself
The initial step I believe in practicing self-love is realizing that you are enough just the way you are and loving yourself for who you are. Have you ever had thoughts like:” If I have/am bla bla bla, I will be enough “
“If I have a boyfriend/girlfriend, then I will be enough”
It’s most probably your mind is saying that if someone loves me, it’s validation of my worth, so I can love myself.
“If I have a a great career, I will feel good about myself.”

The funny thing is when you have all this, it’s very likely you still feel unhappy, inadequate, and continue seeking other external things to determine your self-worth.
Your self-worth is not determined by external factors such as a good job, a great career, relationships, a beautiful wife/ husband, luxurious cars, or any other material possessions. If you condition your worth on any of these, you will become miserable and feel worthless if you lose any of them.
I remember feeling lost and inferior when I couldn’t find a job related to my field after graduating for few years. Seeing people walking around in suits, I felt less than them, and I wondered, “If I can find a job in my field, work in an office, I would feel so good about myself, I would be a very confident person?” Then I finally got an office job. Guess what? I still didn’t feel good enough. I conditioned it with something else – “should have achieve more“. I kept chasing external things that “made me feel like I’m enough”.
Love yourself for who you are, the good qualities, the imperfections, the flaws. In saying that, it doesn’t mean that you should not strive to be a better person or achieve more in life. The whole point is that you are good enough just as you are.
How to Truly Love Yourself -Love yourself unconditionally. Treat yourself with great love and compassion.
2. Stop being so judgmental/harsh on yourself
You know that saying, “We are our own worst critics”? It’s true! We often have these internal conversations that are super negative. Things like “I’m stupid,” “I’m not good enough,” “I’m terrible.” STOP. These conversations in your head can seriously impact your happiness and well-being, holding you back from living your life to the fullest. So, let’s switch it up and use more compassionate and gentle language for ourselves.

3. Treat yourself like you would treat your family or your loved ones
Most of us are kinder and less judgmental to others than we are to ourselves. If a friend is going through a breakup or facing challenges, you’d give them compassion, encouragement, and loving words, right? But when it comes to ourselves, we tend to beat ourselves up with negative blame and shame. So, let’s try treating ourselves the way we treat our loved ones. Be your own biggest cheerleader!

4. Ignore people who treat you wrong
In life, you encounter all sorts of people – nice ones, not-so-nice ones. But don’t take it personally. The way people treat others is a reflection of how they feel and treat themselves. So, ignore those not nice and feel sorry for them instead. Remember, their rudeness or judgmental views are often rooted in their own insecurities and inferiority. So, if someone treats you wrong, remember, “Nothing is wrong with you,” it’s them!
5.Disconnect to connect
In this modern, fast-paced life, we tend to go with the speedy circle that life takes us, forgetting to slow down, take time to reflect, and breathe. When you come home stressed, instead of quickly turning to social media to distract yourself from worries and unpleasant feelings, turn off that dammmm phone, give yourself 20-30 minutes or more to do nothing.
Perhaps you could let soothing music play in the background or guided meditation and allow yourself fully experience all your senses .
6.Date Yourself: Go Out Solo

Initially , you might find it weird, awkward, or embarrassing right? Wait for no one, take yourself to have that delicious bowl of Pho, sip that amazing Cappuccino, go to the cinema, solo travel… This practice allows us to step out of our bubble, our safe zone, not talking to anyone, but fully enjoying the experience and learning about ourself – Enjoy our own company.
7. More is less
Sometimes if you want more, it means you just need less. If we want to be happy, we probably need to have fewer material expectations for ourselves, less constant comparison to our peers’ achievements, and not give a dam about what anyone else is doing.
- You don’t need a fancy date in a five-star restaurant to feel happy or like a queen. You can have a great time and lots of laugh at a local pizza shop.
- You don’t need to live in a penthouse to feel like you are the luckiest person in the world. You can be grateful to have fresh, clean water, a roof above your head, and be able to feed yourself and your family with yummy food.
- You don’t need a lot to be HAPPY. Reward yourself with a freaking good coffee in the morning once in a while, take that sip, smell that amazing aroma, and all of a sudden, …Boom… life is beautiful.

In conclusion, self-love is about recognizing your worth independent of external factors, treating yourself with compassion and kindness, and giving yourself the space to grow and reflect. It involves accepting yourself for who you are, embracing both your strengths and imperfections, and prioritizing your well-being. By practicing self-love, you can cultivate a deeper sense of fulfillment, resilience, and joy in life.
